Geoje International Center (GIC)
Geoje International Centre (GIC) is a non-profit organisation providing information and services to expats, promoting intercultural understanding, friendship and cooperation between foreign residents and locals in Geoje city.
GIC’s objective is to help develop a heightened community spirit, as well as forming various networks of cultural exchange. GIC provides a means for exchange between locals and expats; contributing to forming a positive image of Geoje as a global city of culture.
GIC was established in 2013 and since then many popular classes are held in GIC which is run by volunteers. To reach its objective, GIC also has a library, toddler group, weekly coffee morning, annual fair, international football club and regular tours. It also publishes the regular 'Geoje News' for the local community. This publication is free, available both online and in print.
Currently GIC is fully reliant on its members and volunteers for its existence and to meet its operational costs. Membership cost is on average only KRW 5,000 per month (a rebate applies if you take out an annual membership of KRW 50,000 per year). Membership is required to attend the classes and to secure discounts at GIC Tours.
Other programs provided by GIC (e.g fair, exhibitions, Geoje News, beach cleaning) are publicly available, ie. no membership is required to participate.
Further update and details about GIC are available at the Facebook Page : https://www.facebook.com/gicgeoje/

Local Government Community Centres
GeThere is a Community Centre (Moonhwagwan) in every residential area in South Korea, usually located in the middle of the city/town. These Community Centres also provide help, including assistance for foreigners, especially those who are married to a South Korean. Baby sitting or Korean language classes are also held at most Community Centres for free, however they will be taught using Korean language as a medium. Some find this is challenging but it can also help to learn the language more quickly.
